From Bikes Not Bombs:
Bikes Not Bombs promotes bicycle technology as a concrete alternative to war and environmental destruction. For 25 years, BNB has been a nexus of bike recycling and community empowerment both in lower income neighborhoods of Boston and in the nations of the Global South. Programs involve young people and adults in mutually respectful leadership development and environmental stewardship, while keeping the landfills clear of thousands of bicycles.
About 6,000 donated bikes are processed yearly at BNB. Bikes are put back in good working condition and used in local programs or shipped and distributed for free to organizations in Africa, Central America and the Caribbean, to help promote peace and development. People use the bikes for transportation, small businesses, learning skills such as bicycle mechanics and welding, and in the manufacturing and distributing of pedal-powered machines that shell and grind grain, power water pumps, depulp coffee, spin blenders, and power washing machines.
Volunteers handle most of the workload at BNB, and it takes money to make many things happen â?? like shipping containers overseas, and much more. BNB relies on donations to keep things running, and thatâ??s where those of us who donâ??t live near the BNB hub can plug in.
I am asking for your help in raising funds. You can click on the link to my donation page, and also please follow this link to find out more about this amazing group of people and all the great things they are doing: http://bikesnotbombs.org
